This move came after both players' outstanding performances during Euro 2024. However, before the tournament began, Barcelona had a different plan in mind.
The arrival of Hansi Flick as the new coach was not expected to significantly alter the plans laid out by the previous coach, Xavi Hernandez. Before leaving the club, Xavi had requested that Barcelona sign a new midfielder.
Xavi’s request was not an issue for the club, as they indeed needed new players to strengthen the team. Hansi Flick also agreed with this plan, but the club management soon shifted their priorities.
